How I began – with “Birds from my window”…

It all began back in 2013…. I was on a casual nature trail . It so happened that the area near Thane Creek which we were visiting that winter had special guests- a flock of Rosy Starlings who had migrated in the season to the south..

I wasn’t into photography then, but i managed to take a reasonably ‘ok’ shot of the beauties. This very trail gave a great start to my passion for nature and in particular, for birds..

Though I lived in the hustle bustle of Thane city, I realized that many birds had made my backyard their home, thanks to  a few fruit-bearing trees and many more old ones in my area..

Now watching those ‘winged wonders from my window’ became a great pastime and hobby for me..

I used to spend my free time by the window and I made friends with lots of birdies…

The magnificent songster-the Oriental Magpie Robin fascinated me by his voice(he would wake me up at unearthly hours early in the morning by his sweet song!!)

The White Throated Fantail was another friendly and bold bird.. It was so fun to watch him flit around with his ‘fan’ showing of beautifully.. He was the first one I saw who dared to fiddle with a crow with his clever tricks..

The tiny Purple Rumped Sunbird and Commom Tailorbird were some others who were extremely cute to watch but equally tough to capture in my lens.. It took me years to get decent shots of these wonders.. But watching them was too much fun!!

The White Throated Kingfisher was another frequent visitor.. It was great viewing him fly off with his blue wings expanded and a sharp shrieking noise in the air..

The Coppersmith Barbet was a rare species I met who loved the summer(I personally hate summers!) – his joyous’ tuk-tuk ‘call brought the backyard to life even in the sunny days..He was the best ever companion as he also showcased his art of nest building(in a tree trunk  just beside my window) as if it was just for me!!

The winters brought the Gold winged wonders to the city-The Indian Golden Orioles. They would arrive with their charming calls and play their unique hide and seek with each other, and with my camera too!!

These are some my friends since I was a beginner.. And there are many more yet to come..
